YMAA

Young Men's Auxilliary Association

Thirteen young men, all bachelors, who were confirmed by Bishop Melville Jones on St. Paul's Conversion Day 1939 decided to form themselves into a Church Society which came into existence on Sunday 22nd January 1939, and became known as the Young Men Auxiliary Association of St. Paul's Church Breadfruit, Lagos.

The YMAA is one of the oldest societies of the Church whose members have served for several years in the Archdeaconry, the Diocese, and the Anglican Communion of the Church of Nigeria in various capacities as Lay Readers, Parish Church Councillors, Synod Delegates, Verger, Legal Advisers, Medical Advisers, People's Warden, and the Chancellor of the Diocese in the Anglican Communion of the Church of Nigeria in the 63 years of its existence.

MOTTO
The motto of the Association, which is the philosophy, the conviction, and the practising tenets of the members, is "THE FATHERHOOD OF GOD AND THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN", encourages every member of the YMAA to hold every other member of the YMAA as his brother. There is therefore very cordial fellowship and friendship between members.

ACTIVITIES
Activities of the YMAA are always aimed to be directly relevant to, and to have impact on the advancement of the Church in its totality. Every member of the YMAA is a gifted person, and the Association encourages members to utilize their individual gifts and talents for the service of God and the brotherhood of man.

The YMAA cherishes this providential position as the Chairman (Chair Society) of the Adult Harvest Bazaar of the year 2002. Therefore YMAA members have been actively involved in the celebrations of the 150th anniversary.
For example:
The Chairman of the 150th Anniversary PlanningCommittee is Dr. Femi Obasanya, who is the Assistant Secretary of the YMAA. The 150th Anniversary Lecture given by Prof. A.O. Lucas was undertaken under the distinguished chairmanship of another YMAA member, Prof. O.O. Hunponu – Wusu.
Members of the YMAA are also currently serving in the Parish Church Council, and participating in the anniversary celebrations.

Because the YMAA is a historic society in itself, members know, and appreciate the value and importance of events. The 150th anniversary celebrations are regularly reviewed during the monthly meetings of the Association, and especially to highlight those activities which may be of particular interest to its members since all the current members are good fathers, and some are even good grandfathers.

ASPIRATIONS
The YMAA aims to be foremost in all things which are enlightened, proactive, innovative and consequential on the progress of the Church.

Hence the YMAA looks eagerly to sponsoring this innovative web site of the Church in this momentous year 2002.

Because of the brotherly affection, the amiable fellowship, and the high Christian values, which exist in the YMAA, all young men of SPCB who are still looking for a Church Society to join are advised to hurry and become members of the YMAA.

Indeed through the grace of our Lord Jesus, every member of the YMAA has continued to grow from strength to strength over the years after being a member of the YMAA.
